Digital Proof vs. Flexographic Label
Important differences between a computer-generated proof and a true flexographically printed label can be spotted in this example.* Richmark Label goes to great lengths to generate the best possible proof but these subtle differences especially with CMYK (four color process) images must be taken into account. Please read the paragraph regarding this carefully.

Technical Label Specifications
It is in this area that items such as the Richmark die number (for example R-75A), label dimensions, material to be printed and rewind directions are listed. While the verification of all these items is important, rewind direction is critical especially if your label is to be machine applied. Please be sure that the rewind direction selected matches up to your machine’s requirements and that, if you have any questions, you contact your Sales Representative immediately.

Copy and Color Verification
While a physical color proof, a fax proof and a PDF proof all have varying strengths and weaknesses, this area explains what specific copy and color areas we are expecting you to verify. A color proof can be used for process color but spot colors (PMS) may not be exact to the Pantone guide. A fax proof is really for copy and position only and a PDF, while in color, is no better for verifying color than a fax as each viewing monitor may have subtle differences in output. Please read each comment carefully as they have been chosen specifically for the proof in question and it will help you to better understand what you should be looking for.

Proof Notes
These are notes from the Proofreading department regarding inaccuracies, spelling errors and, in some cases, general questions based on the files we received to generate your proof. Be sure to address them when returning your proof to your Sales Representative.

Signature Area
For each item, one of these three boxes must be checked and then signed.
  • “Approved” means that you approve AS IS all aspects of the proof and wish for Richmark to proceed with plate making and the print schedule in general.
  • “Approved with Changes” means that you have approved the proof with changes that you must refer to on the proof. Please make your notes as clear as possible as you will not be receiving another proof (your changes will be made and we will then proceed with the print schedule.) This option should only be used when the change you wish to make is both minor and very easy to understand.
  • “New Proof Required” simply means that more changes are required and that, once they are completed, you wish to see another proof. Like the above, please make your notes very clear or simply email instructions that can accompany your proof back into the Prepress Department.

Customer Comments
Use this area to mention any issues regarding the Proof or the order in general (i.e. “please ship all overnight”, etc.) As with all aspects of your print order, the better the lines of communication are, the more likely we will be able to meet your needs. Never hesitate to mention details that you would like to emphasize or would like to have explained. Your Sales Representative will be more than happy to contact you and clarify any situation.
* Applicable only for color proofs that were physically sent from Richmark to the customer/designer. This example is not applicable for faxed or PDF proofs.
